Martha Amulen
Psychotherapist Trainer , Uganda

Martha Amulen is an experienced psychotherapist and trainer specializing in trauma rehabilitation, with a focus on survivors of torture and war trauma, particularly those affected by the LRA conflict in Northern Uganda. Since 2019, she has worked with the Center for Victims of Torture (CVT), where she leads psychological interventions for adults and young people born of war. Martha provides both group and individual therapy, as well as supervision, coaching, and training to psychosocial counselors and partner organizations. Her expertise supports these organizations in delivering psychosocial care tailored to the needs of war survivors.

As a psychotherapist, Martha plays a pivotal role in supporting partner organizations to incorporate trauma-informed processes into their social cohesion initiatives. She collaborates closely with these organizations to design, implement, and sustain approaches that are sensitive to the complex effects of trauma on individuals and communities, particularly those affected by war and torture. Martha provides guidance on creating safe, supportive environments that foster trust and healing, emphasizing practices that recognize and address trauma’s impacts. Her work enables organizations to enhance their effectiveness in promoting social cohesion, ensuring that interventions are empathetic, culturally responsive, and aligned with the specific needs of trauma survivors.

Additionally, she facilitates Therapeutic Documentation, empowering survivors to document their stories for justice and healing purposes.  

Martha holds an MSc in Counselling Psychology and has over 15 years of experience in the field.
