Maki Katoh
Country Director , CVT Ethiopia

Maki Katoh, MSc, has been working with CVT as country director, interim country director and technical advisor to country director since 2004 in various countries, including Guinea, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Democratic Republic of Congo and Jordan. Most recently, she was assigned to Ethiopia between 2014 and 2021, and returned to the post in 2023 where she continues to serve as country director. Prior to joining CVT, she worked at Doctors of the World-USA, based in New York, for 5.5 years in various capacities, including project director for the Human Rights Clinic, which trained and coordinated medical and mental health professionals to provide clinical evaluation for torture survivors seeking asylum. She also volunteered as a consultant to a local torture treatment program in Rwanda in 2003 and 2004.

In addition to holding a Master’s Degree in International Affairs, she has completed certificate programs in Mastery in Global Mental Health: Trauma and Recovery offered by the Harvard Program in Refugee Trauma, as well as the Human Rights Program offered by the Excellence Center for Education and Training Services in Palestine, among others. Maki is a co-recipient of the American Psychological Association’s 2006 International Humanitarian Award and a co-author of the associated article published on the American Psychologist.
