Diego Piña Lopez is a former program director of the Casa Alitas Program for asylum seekers in Tucson, Arizona. During his tenure, Casa Alitas served over 90,000 people following their release from detention. The program provides resources for families to connect with their sponsors in the United States. Diego is also a former consultant for Catholic Charities USA where he helped them to improve their network of border shelter services for asylum seekers. In addition, he is a Ph.D. student at the Mel and Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health at the University of Arizona. Diego also has a Master’s Degree in Social Work and Public Administration from Arizona State University. He hopes to explore health disparities affecting asylum seekers in the United States and to use his Ph.D. to contribute to a national health resource network for recent immigrants.
