CVT’s message is one of hope and healing. One of the ways we bring this message to the broader community is through the dedicated volunteers in our speakers bureau.

These volunteers visit schools, religious organizations, community groups, philanthropic associations, service clubs and other organizations to talk about the problem of torture and CVT’s work combatting it. They teach audiences about the devastating effects of torture and war trauma, reminding them that this is not a distant problem: as many as 30,000 torture survivors live in Minnesota alone. They spread the message that our hope is justified and healing is possible.

Often, a visit from a volunteer speaker has been the start of a long-term relationship: students sign up as volunteers; a church takes a client under its wing, offering support, transportation, sometimes housing; a community group incorporates CVT into one of its service projects. Every time a volunteer speaks to the public, we expand the community of people who understand and support our work. Your organization can join that community.
