At CVT it is our mission not only to heal the wounds of torture, but to stop its practice worldwide.

As a treatment center, we advocate for the protection of human rights from a unique position – one of healing and reclaiming civic leadership.

We have brought the topic of torture to the table in the Minnesota legislature, in the U.S. Congress and in international bodies such as the United Nations by lobbying for the needs of torture survivors.

The call for an end to torture, however, cannot be limited to the people in power. Members of CVT’s Volunteer Speakers Bureau also educate civic groups, faith-based organizations, schools and community organizations about torture and efforts to stop it. We are also gathering information about innovative, grassroots-level human rights efforts through our New Tactics in Human Rights project.

Since 2004, CVT has NGO Special Consultative Status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations. This designation allows CVT to serve as a technical expert, advisor and consultant to governments and the UN Secretariat.
